Julian Kern dreams of one day winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège, a race he loves for its succession of climbs and the overall difficulty that the oldest Classic on the calendar presents. The 2011 European Championships course in Offida, Italy was similarly hard and Kern turned out victorious in the race. Kern’s first steps in cycling were instigated by his uncles, both racing on a regional level at the time, and Jan Ullrich’s years in cycling’s top tier. In 2006, having spent one year as an exchange student in the US, he travelled home with a backpack full of motivation to try his destiny and become a professional bike rider.
