Challenging racing going on in Trofeo Laiguelia

The Trofeo Laiguelia offered some hard racing for the LEOPARD TREK riders. Alexandr Pliuschin proved to be the strongest of the lot by finishing just behind the first elite group. Moreno Moser (Liquigas-Cannondale) won the stage with a surprise attack in the very end.

“Today was a hard stage for our guys. As we expected, it went very differently than in the GP Etruschi. The outcome would certainly be different as well”, says Director Adriano Baffi. “I asked the guys to save a maximum of energy for the final. Most of our guys have never done a race as long as this one, so it would certainly be a hard day for them.”

Fabio Silvestre joined an early break, which got caught before the final of the race. Another break of five men tried their luck, but was reeled  back with 25 kilometers to go.

A sprint between an elite group of about fifteen riders was then looming, but Moreno Moser, nephew of the great Francesco, launched a surprise attack that granted him the first victory of his carreer.

Adriano Baffi: “Alexandr Pliuschin was our best man today. He finished just behind the first group. The other guys know now that the level of the pros is very high. Today was good day to gain experience.”
